A weekend in the Lakes

Two nights under the fells, a lake to ourselves before breakfast, and the heater earning its keep. A first trip that turns into a habit.

The route

The Lakes are close enough that we left after work on Friday and were under the fells by dark. Enola knows the way by now.

A lake to ourselves

The trick in the Lakes is to be up before everyone else. We walked down to the water before breakfast, just us and the mist coming off it, and the dog deciding whether the swim was worth it. By the time the car parks filled, we were already on the tops.

Immaculate van, everything we could think of and more. An easy process from start to finish.

Two nights, done properly

We did not try to see all of it. One valley, one big walk, one long evening with the awning out and the heater on. That was plenty. The drive home on Sunday came round too soon, which is usually how you know it was a good one.

The Lakes make a fine first trip. They also make a habit.
